KAWANA is set to become the heart of health on the Sunshine Coast with the construction of the new $150 million Ramsay Private Hospital ahead of schedule and hundreds of doctors and nurses applying for work. Construction specialist John Holland and health care operator Ramsay Health Care have proposed to deliver the 200 hundred bed hospital by December, 2013, to link with the future $2.83 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital in 2016 in Kawana.

One of Australia’s largest infrastructure projects is about to be unleashed in the midst of a city of 340,000 people. Over the first five years of the venture’s phased eight-year construction life, some $1.5 million will be spent on it every day.

During the peak first three years of building, the construction workforce will average about 2000. And when it’s finished, it will create 10,000 permanent jobs - which immediately tells you that it’s not a resources project.
